ELEV8 Senior PG Midfielder Annie Morrison has verbally committed to California State University, Fresno. She’s the first ELEV8 2018 Female student-athlete to commit to a Division I school, and she’s the first player in ELEV8 Lacrosse Club history to choose the Bulldogs.
We talked with Annie to celebrate and share her commitment. We encourage players and parents alike to read and learn from his story.
College Committment: California State University, Fresno
High School: St. Timothy High School, Cochrane
Current Team: 2018 ELEV8 Elite Girls
“I selected Fresno State because of the lacrosse program, the coaches, the academic support, athletic facilities and the location, especially because it is a little bit closer to home. I intend to take Athletic training, and I will be graduating from Fresno State in 2022!”
“Originally, I wanted to play university basketball. Lacrosse was on the radar, but it wasn’t until ELEV8 started their girls program three years ago that it started to become a reality. D1 lacrosse was always the dream, but I wasn’t always sure if I was actually good enough to have the opportunity to play at that level. I’ve played Calgary Field, competed with the ELEV8 Elite teams that went to the Presidents Cup in Florida and worked with their winter training hybrid program as well as any camps and clinics that they put on in the summer.”
“Training with ELEV8 has been the best experience of my life. Although some of the biggest challenges that I have ever faced have been with ELEV8 I have learned that if you stay focused on your goals and consistently work towards them you will be successful, regardless of the number of setbacks. The ELEV8 coaches have helped shape me and so many others into strong, independent leaders and I believe that is because they have such high expectations, and those expectations don’t waver for anyone. This program has incredible coaches that have strong leadership, dedication, and commitment. Every one of the coaches sets an example for the student-athletes in the program, which truly sets individuals up for success in life on and off of the field. The best advice that I have received from ELEV8, which I didn’t really realize until after I started being recruited was “Trust the Process.” Obviously, you need to work hard too, but I realized after the fact that the number of tiny details that I was worried about don’t matter in the bigger picture if you are already doing everything you can to be successful. Trust that if you work as hard as you can everything will work out the way that it is supposed to.”
“My fondest lacrosse memory would be having the opportunity to travel with just the team and coaches to Florida last fall. It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun!”
“We are so incredibly proud of Annie and her growth as a student-athlete over the last three years. Annie has made an incredible impact on the ELEV8 Lacrosse program, and is contributing to the growth of women’s lacrosse in Alberta and in Canada with her drive an direction into the NCAA. We look forward to working with Annie as the fall of 2018 approaches, and are excited to follow her NCAA career as a student-athlete.”
